Battery Wholesale has served the Kitchener-Waterloo region for nearly 70 years. We are a
family-owned business offering factory-direct pricing on a wide range of battery types for
consumers and trade customers alike. Our staff are battery specialists — not generalists —
and offer free battery testing, charging, installation, and recycling in-store. The business
was founded in 1955 as Smith Battery Service by the current owners' family. Three generations
later, we remain at the same Lawrence Avenue location.

**How long should a car battery last?**
Most car batteries last 3–5 years depending on climate, driving habits, and electrical load.
Cold Canadian winters reduce capacity by 20–50% and can cause premature failure.

**Do you test batteries for free?**
Yes. Battery testing is free with no purchase required. Walk in, hand us the battery, and we
load-test it on the spot. No appointment needed.

**What is the difference between AGM and standard flooded batteries?**
AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) batteries are spill-proof, tolerate deeper discharge, recharge faster,
and last longer in high-vibration environments. Flooded lead-acid batteries cost less upfront
but require maintenance. AGM is preferred for modern stop-start vehicles, boats, and solar.

**Do you deliver batteries in Kitchener-Waterloo?**
Yes. Trade account holders receive free local delivery across Kitchener-Waterloo, with weekly
runs to shops outside the city. Retail customers are welcome to pick up in-store.

**What is a deep cycle battery?**
A deep cycle battery is designed to be discharged to 50–80% of its capacity repeatedly.
Car batteries deliver short bursts of high current; deep cycle batteries deliver steady power
over long periods. Deep cycle batteries are used in RVs, boats, solar systems, and mobility.

**Do you carry lithium batteries?**
Yes. We stock LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) batteries for e-bikes, solar storage, marine,
and RV use. LiFePO4 batteries are lighter, charge faster, and last 3–5× longer than lead-acid.

**Why did my battery die over winter?**
Cold weather reduces capacity, and parasitic draws (clocks, alarms, computers) drain batteries
that sit unused. Batteries not maintained with a trickle charger often fall below the minimum
voltage needed to start a vehicle.

**Can I mix batteries of different ages or brands?**
No. Batteries with different internal resistance or age charge and discharge unevenly. The
weakest battery limits the whole bank and fails sooner. Replace batteries as a matched set.
